Today I had some free time and I thought of doing something productive with it. Nothing productive done. Anyway, I was watching some youtube videos, where the uploader was talking on a topic in a humorous way. Yes, I do use my free time lavishly.
Whenever I open that one app, the first thing that I think of is that technology has evolved a lot and how! We watch people we don't know. We comment on their videos appreciating their talents. We talk to our friends about them, on how well the videos of a particular youtuber are.
We know so much about their personality, their way of interaction, their opinions. However, on a personal level, we don't know them. It's like we know nothing about them, but then we know so much! Today's post isn't a philosophical piece of writing, on how technology is bringing people together and creating all lovely positive outcomes. It is to show the actual picture.
So, I was watching some videos, and I don't know how many of you have this habit, but I watch the videos and read the comments posted simultaneously. I was doing the same today. We'll get to what I read there later.
I appreciate all talents everywhere. It is awesome to see someone working on something they are good at. To be known by their talents is a great thing. There is something even better to watch than their talents – some other people praising them for their work. It gives me the assurance that we still live in a world of talented and mindful people, among all the good and bad things that surround.
But that's the thing about reality. They can stand so much apart from where you would want it to be. Just someday, take out some time to read through comments of some youtube videos, like I did. Some comments would appreciate the uploader, which is awesome. Some suggest how they can do better, which is lovely.
Then there are comments that have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the video. Many of the comments are made to attack the uploaders at a personal level.
Disgusting is an underrated word to describe such a situation, and I can't presently come up with a better word that would fit this case.
Cyber hate is common. You don't even need to upload anything on youtube. Just join a social media and present a view on anything under the sun. Someone might applaud you, someone might disagree and present their own opinion, both of which is fine. Then comes a kind of people who do not agree with you but they don't have anything to counter you with. So, they make personal statements.
These people are called trolls. First of all, I'll tell you what I think of them. They have so much of free time! At one moment, I envy them for their free time and the next moment, it gets funny when I think how they choose to make use of their time!
You might ask, “why do they do that?” It is because they want attention. The easiest way, or at least one of the easiest ways of attraction is to do something irksome to someone who is doing good in life. A hate comment on someone who is widely known for something good would either attract someone who might agree or disagree with the hate comment. Either way, it brought attention to the person. Goal achieved.
Or, maybe they are frustrated over something else. They see that social media post or the video as a medium to provide them the anonymity to say whatever they feel like without facing any consequences. When in real life, they would never have the courage to speak up like that.
Another reason is jealousy. If trolls cannot reach a high point in life, they aim at dragging down the ones there. By doing so, they do not gain anything. I just wish they realize that.
Hate extends to real life, too. You might be good at something and someone somewhere might not like it. You might have faced it, too. All you need to do is stay away from such people and don't take any of their words seriously. It would be a waste of your time. They would, in fact, love that you are getting frustrated over their actions.
While constructive criticism tells you where you stand, trolls are meant to decrease your productivity. Paying attention to them serves their purpose. That is why not paying heed to it is the basic thing that one should do.
It is sad to see people not understanding the hard work and creativity of people. Life would be so much more beautiful if people would recognize talents and appreciate them, encourage and help them to grow. Why not let's make this world a better place, a place where people are loved for who they are and what they do, a place where human beings respect human beings and their choices, people who work for getting a higher position in life, instead of trolling someone already above them? Trust me, everyone would love that kind of world.
Keep Smiling! 😊
